Shaky Peace in Ethiopia's Tigray Region The fragile peace that followed the 2020 2022 Tigray War is on shaky ground once again as military activity in and around Alamata raises concerns about renewed conflict.

The disputed city straddles Ethiopia's Tigray and Amhara regions, where Ethiopian federal troops withdrew in January 2023, leaving control to forces loyal to the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF).

With a growing military presence and troop deployments on the Raya front, Alamata residents are bracing for the worst.
