However, this week, the rule found itself at the center of a contentious battle between Florida's Attorney General James Uthmeier and the NFL.

Uthmeier issued a subpoena to the NFL demanding it drop the Rooney Rule, which requires teams to interview at least two minority candidates for head coach and general manager positions.
