More Prisoners in England and Wales Are Recalled Than Released for the First Time The latest Ministry of Justice data reveals a disturbing trend: more people have been recalled to prison than released from it.

For the first time on record, 13,193 prisoners were recalled while only 12,977 were released. This stark statistic is not just a numerical anomaly; it reflects a systemic failure that has been decades in the making.
